In the RGB color model, the letter R represents red, G represents green, and B represents blue. These three colors are the primary colors of light. All other colors are formed by a combination of these three colors, and it is believed that mixing many different colors could not create these three colors.
According to some studies, the intensity of each primary color can range from 0 to 255, which means that for each color, 256 shades can be obtained — with three primary colors, which gives nearly 16,777,216 colors.
If R = 0, G = 0, B = 0, you get black, and if R = 255, G = 255, B = 255, you get white. This color model is an additive color model.

What is the HSV color model?

In the HSV color model, H represents hue, S represents saturation, and V represents value (brightness). Therefore, in this color model, the color is represented by the hue it carries, how saturated it is (saturation), and its brightness.
The HSV color model represents color in a way that is more intuitive to humans.
In this color model, the hue ranges from 0 to 360 degrees (on the color wheel, red is from 0 to 60 degrees, yellow is from 60 to 120 degrees, green is from 120 to 180 degrees, cyan is from 180 to 240 degrees, blue is from 240 to 300 degrees, and purple is from 300 to 360 degrees). Saturation and value range from 0 to 100 percent.
The HSV color model is an alternative representation of the RGB color model.

RGB Color Model and HSV Color Model

The RGB color model is the most popular color model for mixing and creating colors. Red, green, and blue are the primary colors of light, and all other colors are formed by combining these three colors and varying intensity. However, the problem with this color model is that people don’t perceive colors as combinations of these three colors.
If computer graphic students need to create a color like bluish-green, it becomes quite challenging to develop such a color. Because in the RGB model, you don’t know the exact intensity required for each color to create such a color. How do you make it lighter or darker? These are the reasons why the RGB model cannot answer these questions.
Therefore, artists developed another system to define more human-understandable colors, known as the HSV color model. This color model is also referred to as the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) color model.

How to Convert RGB to HSV?

Manually converting a color from one color model to another is quite complex. That’s why web developers have created several available online tools that convert RGB to HSV.
