Types of IP Addresses
There are two types of IP addresses: IPv4 and IPv6.

This 32‐bit address space provides nearly 4.3 billion unique addresses, although some blocks are reserved for specific purposes.

IPv6: Internet Protocol version 6 is the latest version of IP addresses. Due to the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the limitations of IPv4, IPv6 was developed. IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long and contain both numbers and letters, providing an exponentially larger address space than IPv4.

This is the expanded form of an IPv6 address for one of Google’s DNS servers. The expanded form can also be compressed.
Over time, the internet is expected to fully adopt IPv6. Google publishes statistics showing the percentage of traffic to its sites using IPv6 compared to IPv4. You can also verify if a domain uses IPv6 by checking its compatibility.
